Vivien Goodall - The Slow Toad
Vivien is an amateur printmaker based in Devon who strives to capture common sights in the southwest using the tactile and immersive method of lino printing as well as dabbling in mono print, drypoint etching and acrylic painting. Dartmoor holds a special place in her heart as do toads, sheep and birds, all of which are frequently represented in her work.
We currently stock two of her lino sheep art prints reduced to a greeting card size. Each card comes wrapped with an envelope.
Whiteface Dartmoor
I've been in love with Dartmoor since moving to Devon from Dorset in 2019. The epitome of sheep seen on Dartmoor, the Whiteface Dartmoor is a majestic and versatile animal. This breed began a series of sheep portrait lino prints as part of a wider collection of Dartmoor themed prints. No walk on Dartmoor is complete without seeing some sheep and this breed is an icon of Devon life. The Whiteface Dartmoor sheep is a single layer print in black ink on smooth Winsor and Newton drawing paper. The initial image was drawn directly onto traditional artists' lino and carved using fine tools. Although the face of the sheep is fairly realistic, the wool was created by semi-abstract swirls.
Kerry Hill Sheep
This is a continuation of a series of sheep portrait lino prints as part of a wider collection of Dartmoor themed prints. Recently I have also been learning more about wool and knitting and the Kerry Hill sheep is a breed prized for its soft wool suitable for clothing. The Kerry Hill sheep is a single layer print in black ink on smooth Winsor and Newton drawing paper. The initial image was drawn directly onto traditional artists' lino and carved using fine tools. Although the face of the sheep is fairly realistic, the wool was created by semi-abstract swirls.
