Join us as we introduce you to one of the most popular ways to knit a jumper! This workshop will walk you through every technique required to knit a jumper from the top (neckline) down and in the round on circular needles. We will be using the Tin Can Knits Flax pattern, and on the day, you will start a 0-6 month size version of this simple modern pullover. We will supply the pattern and the yarn, however you won't completely finish the jumper on the day, so please bring or purchase your own needles to finish at home. (4.0 mm and 5.0 mm 40 cm circular and DPN's, or preferred method for small circumference knitting)
Please note - if you don't have any experience knitting in the round, you will need to have the required 4.0mm and 5.0mm 40cm circular needles (measured tip to tip) as well 5.0mm double pointed needles. We will not be teaching the magic loop technique in this workshop. Of course, if you're experienced with magic loop, please bring or purchase 80 or 100cm needles.
You will learn:
- How to cast on and join in the round
- How to place stitch markers to work raglan sleeve shaping
- How to divide the sleeves and body
- How to pick up sleeve stitches and knit in the round using your preferred small circumference knitting needles
- How to finish and block your completed garment
Every part of this workshop is transferable to an adult sized garment. If you decide to take the plunge, we are offering attendees a 10% discount on the day if you're inspired to knit one for yourself!
If you'd like to take a look at the Flax pattern, Tin Can Knits have an easy to use app that can be downloaded for Apple and Android phones. You can read more about it here https://tincanknits.com/app - We will have the printed pattern available on the day as well as an edited and condensed version that omits the garter stitch sleeve panel.
This is an advanced beginner workshop. You should be able to confidently cast on and work the knit and purl stitches and read a pattern.
There will be short breaks in the day with plenty of tea/coffee and cookies, and you're welcome to bring a lunch with you. We can also recommend a variety of local lunch options if you'd like. Please let us know if you have any particular food preferences or allergies.

About our workshops
Our workshops are designed to be a place where you can relax, learn, and have fun! They are held at our large table at the back of the shop and are limited to 5 participants. If a workshop is full, you can ask to be put on the waiting list.
If you need to cancel your booking, we require 7 full business days to issue you a refund. After that, we will only be able to offer a refund if someone else takes your place. Also, don't forget to put your workshop in your diary! We don't have a reminder system, and are sad when folks miss a booking.
