We'd love to show you how to shear a sheep, but that's best left to the experts! But once you've got a fleece, what steps do you need to take to make it into usable fibre?
In this workshop we'll start with a fleece ready to be divided and washed. We will look at the best uses of the different parts of the fleece and methods of washing the fleece . Once the fleece is clean we can look at the ways of preparing the wool so that it can be spun such as using a drum carder to produce batts ready for spinning. We will also have a go at using hand carders and a comb.
This workshop, led by Judith Read, is suitable for anyone who has always wanted to know how to prepare their own fibre. No previous experience is necessary.

About our workshops
Our workshops are designed to be a place where you can relax, learn, and have fun! They are held at our large table at the back of the shop and are limited to 5 participants. If a workshop is full, you can ask to be put on the waiting list.
If you need to cancel your booking, we require 3 full business days to issue you a refund. After that, we will only be able to offer a refund if someone else takes your place. Also, don't forget to put your workshop in your diary! We don't have a reminder system, and are sad when folks miss a booking.
I came to Judith’s workshop today. She took us from looking at the fleece ( it was much bigger than I expected), what bits to remove etc to how to wash it. She then took us through carding it on both hand carders and a drum carder. I had bought a drum carder but hadn’t really got on with it. Judith knew exactly what I had been doing wrong, I then managed to create a rolag for spinning.
A worthwhile workshop to do if you are sliding gently ( or in my case, not so gently) down the rabbit hole of spinning.
A lovely woolly colourful environment to work in. Friendly and informative staff. Good coffee and cookies…..what more could a wool addict want?
