Summer of Fun!

Welcome to Wool on the Exe Summer of Fun 2025! 

We have so many plans for this summer and we hope that you can join us for as many as possible! Running all through June, July and August we have....

We've arranged trunks shows with not one, not two, but three amazing local indie dyers! 

Ginger Pink | Plant Dyed Yarn | Saturday 21st June 

Kerry dyes beautiful Devon-spun yarns using plant-based dyes. She will be bringing 100g skeins of 4ply and DK hand-dyed wool as well as mini skein sets, and kits including dye kits so that you can try natural dyeing too! 

 

Marina Skua | Hand-dyed Yarn, Fibre and Knitwear Designs | Saturday 12th July

Marina is an independent yarn and fibre dyer, pattern designer, and video content creator! She will bring hand-dyed skeins and fibre, as well as printed patterns and samples of her beautiful designs!

 

Fox & Squirrel Creations | Hand-dyed Yarn and Fibre | Saturday 16th August

Hannah and Andrea are a mother and daughter team who specialise in bright, bold and colourful yarn and fibre! They will bring 100g and 20g skeins of 4ply and DK hand-dyed yarn, a selection of fibre braids and polymer clay stitch markers.

We will share more details about these wonderful guests in our upcoming newsletters and social media. We're particularly excited about some special exclusive colourways that might be dyed up on yarns and spinning fibre!

 

Summer Sock-a-long

Knit or crochet your perfect summer sock!

Summer Sock-along | Knit or Crochet a Sock | Tuesday 1st July to 26th August 

We are all are big fans of hand-made socks! They feel wonderful to wear and they're the ultimate portable project; ideal for all your summer adventures! For this sock-a-long you can join in by knitting or crocheting any sock pattern in any yarn. We're very happy to help with selecting patterns and yarns!

Summer Sock-a-long Prize Draw! As an extra incentive to treat yourself to a new ball of sock yarn we will enter you into a prize draw! A randomly-selected winner will recieve a Wool on the Exe project bag full of sock yarn treats! 

  • For in-store orders just let us know at the till that you're purchasing the yarn for this make-a-long. 
  • For online orders, please let us know that you are participating by adding this item to your order along with your yarn.

Our 8-week journey starts on Tuesday 1st July and ends on Tuesday 26th August, by which time we hope to have completed one sock!

Over this period you are welcome to join us in the shop on Tuesday mornings from 11am to 1pm at our workshop table if you need a little help - or just for fun! Teas and coffees are £1.50 each, or free for members. If you can't make it in to the shop then we would love to see your progress in our dedicated Facebook group, or by tagging us on Instagram, or send us a photo by email if you prefer! 

 

Coryton Cove Beach Picnic

Bring a packed lunch and your current work-in-progress to join us for a picnic on Coryton Cove!

Beach picnic | Coryton Cove, Dawlish | Sunday 6th July 11am-2pm

We certainly hope that the weather is kind to us for this one! Join us on Sunday 6th July, 11am to 2pm on Coryton Cove in Dawlish for a beach picnic. This lovely sheltered spot is an easy walk along the sea wall from Dawlish station with nearby toilets and a small beach café. Bring your current work-in-progress (knitting or crochet project), snacks, lots of water and sun protection - plus swimwear too if you fancy a dip!

Toy Photo Competition

Share your favourite toy makes for our photo competition!

Toy photo competition | 1st June to 31st July

We love running photo competitions as a way of sharing inspiration and admiring the creativity of our community! This year we would like to see your handknitted and crocheted toys, be they adorable or quirky, immaculate or a little wonky; we love them all!

Share your photos all through June and July in any of the following ways:

  • Facebook - post your photo as a comment below a competition thread on our Facebook page.
  • Instagram - post your photo and use the tag #WOTEphotochallenge25
  • Email  - send your photos and stories to: news@woolontheexe.com
  • Bring your toy into the shop and we'll take a photo for you!

At the beginning of August we will collate all the toy photo and entries and randomly select a winner to receive a £25 gift voucher. We would love to hear the stories behind your creations too - we can't wait to see what you share!

 

World Wide Knit In Public Day

Join us to celebrate World Wide Knit in Public Day outside Exeter central library.

World-wide Knit in Public Day | outside Exeter library by Rougemont Gardens | Saturday 14th June 11am to 1pm

We love joining in with this annual event to share our love of knitting (or crochet)! It's is the perfect excuse to get together, meet new like-minded friends and make our favourite hobby visible to the public. This year we're back outside the library in central Exeter. Everyone is welcome to join us. Bring a camping chair if you have one and everything you need to keep you safe in the outdoor weather. This is another event which is weather dependent so please keep an eye on our social media for updates. 

 

Give Knitting a Go - Free drop in!

Have a go at knitting with Trudi, for complete beginners or those who haven't knitted for years! 

Give Knitting a Go | Custom's House, Exeter Quayside | Thursday 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th August 2pm to 4pm

Our community outreach worker will be out and about this summer hoping to tempt more people to try knitting! This time Trudi will be at Customs House, Exeter Quayside, every Thursday afternoon from 2-4pm. Bring any non knitting friends along! 

 

Pompoms in the Library

Something fun for the kids! 

Pompoms in the Library | St Thomas and Pinhoe Libraries | dates and times to be confirmed

Trudi will be running pompom making session for kids in two local libraries over the summer! More details will be coming soon but the library usually charges £2 per child for the session and they must have an accompanying adult with them.

 

Woolly Boobs for Breastfeeding Support

Knit or crochet a breast for our local breastfeeding support group.

Knit/crochet breasts | starting from now until 31st August

All through the summer we will be collecting knitted or crocheted breasts to be used as a visual aid in ante-natal and post-natal groups. We have yarn and patterns available should you need them - but any yarn or pattern would be lovely!
