Cambrian Mountains Wool, like Wool on the Exe, is a community interest company (CIC). Their background goes back to 2008 with a rural initiative aimed at supporting and developing the farming economies of Mid Wales, Dartmoor, The Peak District and the North Highlands. It wasn’t until 2016 that the company was formed and the Cambrian yarn was produced, so they're a relatively young organisation, similar to Wool on the Exe.
We are delighted to support their goals of preserving traditional wool production by stocking their gorgeous wool in our shop. As well as being a sustainable and ethical business, the Welsh Mule yarn they produce is beautiful! The yarn comes in a range of colours inspired by the local hills, history, architecture, and the work of local artists. We stock all ten gorgeous colours of Cambrian Wool 4ply.
The yarn is worsted spun and has a gentle sheen and halo. It is a versatile wool feels both soft and rustic. We think it would be ideal for colourwork projects, as demonstrated by designer Sophie McKane in her Sheep Shuffle Mitts pattern.
