Why we love West Yorkshire Spinners

Beginnings

West Yorkshire Spinners was founded in 1997 in Yorkshire, the original home of the British worsted spinning industry. Setting up a spinning mill from the ground up was daunting, but with hard work and a determination to succeed, they built a strong reputation for high-quality natural-fibre yarns. By 2012, they launched their own yarn – Fleece 100% Bluefaced Leicester – to help champion British wool and its fascinating heritage. Working closely with farmers and wool merchants, they started to build a range of unique and innovative products that showcased what could be achieved by blending British wool and manufacturing ingenuity.

Always Innovative

When creating natural-fibre yarns, they carefully combine traditional skills with state-of-the-art technology to ensure they're always one step ahead. From the finest and purest breed-specific fleece to delicate Mulberry silk, sustainable British alpaca and natural plant fibres, the materials inspire everything they do and each process is crafted around the unique characteristics of the fibre and blend. This care and attention also extends into dyeing and they work with local dyers and their own in-house dye plant to ensure quality and consistency.

Animal & Environment Friendly

Extolling the virtues of British wool is important, but they also know it’s crucial to provide a complete – and fully transparent – story for people who want to craft with the highest-quality fibres. From carding and combing to spinning and dyeing, the majority of the processes are carried out within a 20-mile radius of their in-house facilities in Keighley, Yorkshire. This substantially reduces their carbon footprint and guarantees that you can craft with a clean conscience.
