The touch of the yarn is nice, soft and woolly and not at all artificial. The colours look very natural and some have a kind of tweed effect. The thickness and character of the thread makes it very easy to knit or crochet with.

Why we love Kremke
-
Beginnings
The Kremke Soul Wool brand was founded by Britta and Carsten Kremke. Britta grew up in her mother’s yarn store, the first "yarn only" shop in Hamburg in the 60’s. Ever since being a teenager she has been knitting almost every day: But she eventually got tired from too many “Fancy Yarns” in the market and felt uninspired by the standard ranges of “Merino Super Wash” and “Super Sock” yarns most large brands offered. What she imagined were yarns “with a soul”, yarns that were special, yarns that had a story to tell. So almost ten years ago, she started having producers spin distinct fibres into interesting, yet classic yarns at competitive prices for her young brand.

Reducing waste from the clothing industry
One of our favourite things Kremke does is their line of recycled yarns. These yarns are crafted using exclusively post-consumer textiles (preserving natural resources) in a family run business in India, where surplus textiles are recycled on site. The raw fibres don't travel all around the world, but are sourced, shredded and re-spun locally.

Yarn with soul
Kremke truly does prioritise producing beautiful yarns that don't come at the cost of animal welfare or that of our planet. They create a huge range of yarns in a variety of fibres, textures, beautiful colours and are exceptionally reasonably priced. All wool yarns are mulesing-free and adherence to the Responsible Mohair Standard (RMS) ensures the welfare of mohair goats. For those preferring non-animal fibres, there are ample vegan alternatives, including a selection of recycled yarns. Each part of their process does indeed have soul- what's not to love?
Love the little flecks of colour.
I’m really enjoying making a shawl in this yarn.
It can break easily if pulled firmly so needs a gentle touch (esp for long tail cast on). Reminds me to release some tension and knit gently!
I used mine to crochet a string/market bag. It feels far softer after it’s been worked some, and the flecks of colour make it extra cute
