Wool on the Exe
Playing with Pre-felts
In this course we will discover the joy of using pre-felts. This is when the fibres have been laid out and rolled to the point of fusing together but before the fabric has shrunk. At this stage shapes can be cut out and laid on a background, before felting again to form a picture which can then be enhanced with the addition of silk threads and loose fibres.
The possibilities are endless! The abstract work of Gillian Ayres for example, with its bold flat colour, can be used as inspiration as can a photograph or magazine image you bring along with you.
Once dry the piece can be further enhanced with stitching. The course is suitable for all abilities. There will be some ready made pre-felts but you will also make your own, before embarking upon a picture. All materials will be provided, including some images but feel free to bring some of your own.
