Easy-Peasy Mosaic Shawl CAL

We've got an exciting Crochet-a-long planned with designer Sam Linney!

It's the Easy-Peasy Mosaic Shawl and it starts on Monday 17 May!

This shawl is worked flat, from the centre-neck out and is perfect for anyone looking for a first mosaic crochet project!

This is a really fun and easy make, using double knit (DK) yarn. You can use more or less yarn than Sam did, you can use a different thickness of yarn, add tassels, pom-poms, borders.  It’s a really easy-going, adaptable pattern.  The front of the shawl is subtle, the reverse side is riotous stripes.  What a joy!

One of the first things we'll do as part of the CAL is talk about colour selection. Sam made her version using lots of blues from her stash and bits of other colours for contrast.

Whether you're using stash yarn or purchasing just for this project, sometimes it's really hard to imagine how it will look and plan a colour scheme, so Sam is planning a kick-off session via Zoom on Monday, 17 May at 7 pm to talk about her approach to colour selection and to answer any questions you may have about getting started. You can sign up to get an email link to the Zoom session here.

Gauge is not important in this pattern as you are working from the centre of the shawl, outwards.  You can make it as big or small as you like.  Sam's shawl turned out to be 170 cm wide and 60 cm along the spine and she used 400 grams of DK yarn and a 4.0 mm crochet hook.

The pattern for the CAL is free with any purchase of yarn at the shop :-) Just let us know when you're in or in the notes box if purchasing online.

Or, if you've still got stash yarn left after our numerous lockdowns :-0 and you prefer to use that, you can purchase the pattern here. It's a pdf download and costs just £3.

We've got a private Facebook group called 'Crochet-a-long with Sam Linney' for sharing questions and progress over the CAL. You can join in here. We'll also be using our Wool on the Exe Instagram and Facebook pages to share stories, photos and fun as well as making a few more Youtube videos to help you along if you're new to mosaic crochet. You can find those here.
