Design and knit your own unique Baltic mitts

Quantity Remaining: 4

Step into the world of design and make your own unique traditional mittens - either fingerless or full-fingered. This workshop is split over two days, a week apart, because you will need the intervening days to complete and colour-in your one-of-a-kind personal pattern.

You will learn how to read charts as well as the Kihnu Troi cast on and how to knit Vits (braids crossing the knitted fabric).

Suitable for intermediate or confident beginner knitters who can knit in the round.
The first day involves perusing stitchionaries to construct the design for your mittens, filling in a chart to follow. We will also learn the kihnu troi cast on. The intervening days between workshops gives you time to complete your chart/design at home.

On the second day we will commence knitting. This session will include learning the various ways to make vits (an attractive braid in your knitting) and a simple method of making the thumb. Some people might even complete the pair - most will make good progress towards completing their first mitten. It's a fun and relaxing day with no pressure!

Please note, you will need to supply your own 4 ply yarn and needles.  It is useful to have a tablet or phone camera in order to take a photograph of the various stitches you might want to use from the Stitchionaries -  but not essential. This saves having to wait for a book someone else is looking at. Graph paper and coloured pencils plus reference materials will be provided.

This workshop is led by Terri Bate. You are welcome to bring a lunch with you or we can recommend several good restaurants nearby.
